Nursing Philosophy
I have never honestly thought about my own nursing philosophy; I know that I have always relied on my values, beliefs, and manners that were instilled in me since I was a child. Theories were taught throughout my baccalaureate nursing program, and Sr. Roach's 5 C's of Caring were always pertinent. My expectation has always been to be a caring, compassionate, knowledgeable, respectful, and supportive nurse and human being. I believe that my nursing philosophy is about being respectful to the profession and the patients, family, and community. My nursing philosophy is about caring for the entire human being. Nurses' accountability and commitment to the profession, patients, families, and organization create that bonding relationship, which is imperative to portray as a nurse leader. Providing compassionate, nonjudgmental individualized care to each person helps improve that person's self-worth and quality of life, creating an appreciated and satisfied nurse. I believe that being caring, compassionate, an advocate, and committed to my patient's entire well-being, physically, mentally, and emotionally, is the ultimate goal of my nursing experience and profession.

I know and see that my nursing philosophy has expanded since obtaining my master's in nursing administration, but it still focuses on the patient. My nursing philosophy has advanced to being a leader who actively listens, critically thinks, is an advocate, is honest, upholds confidentiality, is a part of the organization's success, and is patient towards all staff, patients, etc. I believe that the person has to be active in all care with the nurse and the interdisciplinary team; it's a team effort to help the person accomplish their desired healthcare goals. As a nurse and leader, I understand that I must be competent and confident in my skill and knowledgeable, but I also have to take the time to communicate effectively. I am a leader that actively expresses and demonstrates the mission and values of the organization and nursing profession within my position, to my employees, patients, and the community.
