Master of Science in Nursing Outcomes
Outcome 1
Integrate comprehensive assessment, theory, evidence, clinical judgment, research, patient values, & interprofessional perspectives.

The practicum/capstone project that was conducted in courses NU 745, NU 747, NU 749 successfully completed this first outcome requirement in the master's nursing program. My capstone project, Workplace Violence: Patients towards Nurses, allowed me to investigate the issue that is a growing epidemic and research evidence-based practice for quality nursing and safety. This project also allowed for educational nursing theory connection to the implementation and practice changes.
Outcome 2
Utilize information and technology to communicate, educate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making for quality improvement processes.

The course HCGMT720, known as Healthcare Informatics & Technologies, allowed for outcome 2 to be fully understood and obtained through the research of healthcare and technology use through the evaluation of technology implementation in the healthcare setting. It also provided excellent research and knowledge over the advancement in technology and the use of health information exchange (HIE). This assignment expressed the significance of progress in technology used for the patient, quality care, improvement factors, coordination of care, etc.
Outcome 3
Synthesize ethical, economic, legal, & political factors that influence health care to influence the organization & financing of health care & educational delivery systems.

The course NU 718 Delivery of Care in the Health Care Environment midterm reflection journal was beneficial and assisted in completing outcome three. The first four weeks of this course were focused on the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA), insurance, cost, access, health, and outcomes. The next four weeks of the course examined the new health care models and how they relate to nursing theorists, the nursing metaparadigm, quality of care, nursing leadership, magnet status, and the future of the health care system. The last four weeks assisted with bringing all the course work, discussions, and other pertinent knowledge learned together to confirm understanding the overall function of our health care and its future. Overall this course has examined and explained how the health care system functions, increased challenges, and how the PPACA was developed to improve health care by bringing back the focus on patient care and quality. As a nurse leader, I must comprehend the insurance, new delivery of health care models, the problems that our country is facing that are affecting the health care system. I have devoted my nursing career to assisting with improving and serving individuals, but this course has expanded my knowledge to improve my community and organization through understanding health care services.
Outcome 4
Collaborate to design, coordinate, and evaluate patient-centered health care as a leader or member of an interprofessional team.

In the course NU 705 Healthcare Policy & Ethics, one project was creating a business plan for organizational change. I presented the Unit Based Council (UBC) implementation within the Medical-Surgical Unit; this project allowed the nurses to be an active key in change on the unit and promote and provide improved patient-centered care. The UBC committee was implemented within the unit and consists of Med-Surg and ICU nurses from both shifts, techs, unit manager, and education coordinator; the unit collaborates with the multidisciplinary and leadership team. The council meets every month, and this council has completed new processes to improve safety and patient center care.
Outcome 5
Contribute to nursing practice to improve health care outcomes by translating evidence into practice.

The course NU 701 Foundations of Advanced Nursing Practice course allowed me to research evidence-based practice regarding bedside shift reports. This course allowed me to investigate the benefits of bedside shift reports, how this report style assists patients and nursing staff, and the implementation process. This assignment encouraged me to present this topic to the Unit Based Council to implement within the different departments of my current healthcare organization.
Outcome 6
Integrate evidence-based findings for patient-centered and culturally responsive strategies for clinical prevention and health promotion for diverse populations and environments.

During the course, NU 712 Quality and Safety cumulative paper was completed that addressed skin integrity. It was directed towards improving patient-centered care through evidence-based findings and related to my position at my healthcare organization. Quality and safety are essential factors that affect the function of organizations and patient care that is provided. This quality and safety project was devised to improve patient care, satisfaction, and organization in the prevention of pressure injuries. This paper identified the problem, discussed change strategies, and evidence-based practices from literature reviews. It also examined the involvement of nursing leadership in patient safety, quality of care, environment, and teamwork regarding the quality improvement project. An investigation was conducted for resource nurses for skin examination and wound care. Also, discussed the implementation of skin care education, increased communications, patient and family involvement in the plan of care, etc. The research, evidence-based strategies, and implementation process show the importance of patient-centered care for quality, safety, prevention, and patient health promotion.
Outcome 7
Advocate for policies to improve population health, access to quality care, and the profession of nursing.

During the NU 718 Delivery of Care in the Health Care Environment course, I completed research over two different healthcare delivery models for a cumulative course paper. With the research over different healthcare delivery models, this course paper allowed for further education over the healthcare system in the United States, the issues with cost, access, health levels, and outcomes that correlate and lead to the quality of care that the American population receives and faces. This course paper also allowed for further education over the economic, political, and legal factors involved in the healthcare system and its function. The two different healthcare were compared and contrasted, then applied how they were related to nursing theory, metaparadigm of nursing, evidence-based practice, and AONE competencies. This course and assignment provided me with the knowledge and motivation to continue the advancement and improvement in the health care system through nursing leaders advocating, empowering, and educating the health care providers and community to benefit our patients and career paths.

Outcome 8
Provide evidence of professional and personal goal development and activities.

The courses throughout the entire MSN program have assisted with professional and personal goal developments and have promoted the advancement in this nurse's patient-centered care priorities for the role in a hospital setting. The course project, presentation, and implementation of the Unit Based Council during NU 705, then addressing bedside shift report within NU 701, and creating that evidence-based topic with researched ideas for implementation was beneficial with expanding my professional nursing goals. This research, creation, and implementation process from both courses have allowed this nurse to be vocal on the importance of nurse-led processes, nurse education influence and evidenced-based care, and priority of patient care and safety.
Outcome 9
Integration of the 5 C's of caring, commitment, conscience, competence, compassion, & confidence

The written assignment of Philosophy of Nursing in the course NU 701 Foundations of Advanced Practice Nursing allowed me to assess and evaluate the 5 C's and integrate them into my current and future nursing career. The philosophy of nursing is based on the caring aspect and the foundations of nursing. I am advancing and continuously wanting to learn more about the nursing profession, leadership, patient care, and my specific organization. I know I portray my caring, commitment, confidence, competence, conscience, and compassionate qualities to my patient-centered care, and I also want to portray this in my leadership role. It takes a nurse and leader to know the person, health, environment, and themselves to fulfill their profession for patients, family, community, organization, and themselves.
